The Institute for Families in Society seeks to enhance the well-being of families in society through research, education, and consultation at community, state, national, and international levels. It consists of an interdisciplinary group of scholars, researchers, and learners who believe that this mission can be accomplished best through collaboration with community groups, social institutions, and government.

• study the functions, strengths, and needs of families in a changing society; evaluate how programs and policies affect families and their members throughout the lifespan;
• promote the development of culturally competent policies, practices and programs;
• and consult with policy makers, professionals and organizations serving families.
